The Huawei E5830/E5832 also known as the iMo or E5 is a battery powered combined 3G modem and WiFi router. It also functions as a USB 3G dongle and USB connected micro SD/SDHC reader.

The difference between the E5830 and the E5832 is that E5830 only supports the 2100MHz band for 3G operation. The E5832 supports 900MHz and 2100MHz bands for 3G operation. The E5830 is available in the UK from the 3 network as the MiFi.

The 128MB flash inside the E5830/E5832 is partially allocated to a set of 3 Linux MTD partitions. 85.25MB is allocated to MTD and the remaining 42.75MB is allocated to EFS and other usage.
It is NOT recommended that the virtual CDROM or cramfs MTD partitions are altered or overwritten in current firmware releases. Due to bugs in the DMA engine driver and the flash controller driver the ability to erase/write flash pages inside Linux is broken.
If flash has been corrupted then you will need to use a PC based firmware flash utility to recover. The regular firmware update will overwrite/fix mtd2. You need a Mobile Partner update to overwrite/fix mtd1. The log partition (mtd0) can be recreated from within Linux.
